Evelyn was born Evelyn Cole on December 9, 1941, but let her children tell it, it was December 10th.  That was the day they grew up celebrating her birthday.  Evelyn was born and raised here in Philadelphia just up the road.  She was the seventh child of Junior Roosevelt "Bud" Cole and Beatrice Cole.

In her early years, Evelyn met this handsome man, Everett Dewitt Calloway, and they were married in 1962.  From this union they had five children-Latonya Denise Calloway walker, Josman Demetra Calloway Thompson, Everetta Torrez Calloway Johnson, Detraka Lamora "Didi" Calloway and Everett Dewitt Calloway, Jr.  Evelyn and Everett were high school sweethearts and celebrated their 63rdwedding anniversary this past year.

Evelyn was a stay-at-home mother while juggling part-time work which included pressing clothes for wealthy clients, seamstress, working at Price-Pfister and later for the Los Angeles Unified School District as a teacher's aide.  She returned to college and obtained her degree in Child Development and later worked for Calvary Baptist Church Daycare Center before returning to Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Evelyn enjoyed nature activities and family events.  Together with her husband Everett, she ensured that their children experienced these activities as well.  They made many wonderful memories enjoying camping trips in the Oregon mountains, Summer vacations her in Philadelphia, attending family reunions, and taking many out-of-the-blue road trips.  She also enjoyed telling hilarious stories about silly things she and her sisters did while growing up.

Evelyn leaves to mourn her passing and cherish her memories her husband Everett Dewitt Calloway, Sr., sister Verneeda "Bill" Cole and brother LeFleur "Flo" Cole, her five children, a total of twelve grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren, and three great great -grandchildren.

Preceding her passing are her parents-Jr "Bud" Cole and Beatrice Cole, sisters-Loretha "Rita" Cole Shaw, Clara Cole James, Velma Cole Davis, Ellie Cole Williams, Mildred Cole Bailey, and brothers-DeWitt Cole Shakir and JP Cole, and granddaughter-Nicole Shantee Walker.

Evelyn spent her life caring for her family and supporting friend throughout her lifetime.

The family and friends feel blessed and proud to have had Evelyn as their wife, mother, and grandmother; she will be deeply missed.

Live Stream will begin at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 11, 2025
