John Andrew Lane, 88, of Ackerman, MS., passed on Monday, March 30, 2026 at his home. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 4, 2026 at 12 p.m., from First Unity United Methodist Church, 68 Coleman Road, Weir, MS. 39772. Visitation will be Friday, April 3, 2026 from 4 until 6 p. m., from the Funeral Home. Rev. Lyndon B. Geeter, Pastor, will deliver the Eulogy. Burial will be in the Enon Cemetery, Ackerman, MS. Beck Funeral Home of Weir, 4860 MS. Hwy. 12, Weir, MS. 39772, in charge of arrangements.
John Lane, born April 12, 1937, in McCool, Mississippi, was the son of the late Charlie and Mae Bell Lane. One of eleven children, John grew up in a close-knit family rooted in faith and resilience.
John accepted Christ at an early age at Fancher Hill Baptist Church in McCool, Mississippi, a foundation that guided him throughout his life.
At just 16 years old, John left Mississippi and headed north, determined to build a better future. In 1959, he married Ruby Mae Winston, and from that union three children were born.
A man of exceptional work ethic, John completed his apprenticeship in 1969 with the United States Department of Labor in the trade of Cement Mason. After gaining experience with various construction companies, he took a bold step and founded his own business, Lane and Sons. Through dedication, craftsmanship, and unwavering integrity, John built a successful construction company that earned the admiration and respect of colleagues, clients, and his community
John always carried a vision of returning home to Mississippi. In his later years, he fulfilled that dream, earning the love and respect of the entire community as he completed his legacy by building his own home, a lasting testament to his skill and determination. His work will stand for generations.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Charlie and Mae Bell Lane; wife, Ruby Lane, son, John Lane Jr. (Betsy) ; siblings, Charles, Wade, Victor, Mary, Orvilla, Ophelia, JC, and Ladell.
John is survived by his sons, Dennis Lane of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Ty (Teresa) of Naperville, IL; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He also leaves behind one sister, Mamie Cottell of Des Plaines, IL., and one brother, Oliver Lane of Chicago, IL; a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and family.
John's life was defined by faith, family, hard work, and integrity. His legacy lives on in the structures he built, the people he loved, and the generations who continue to walk the path he paved.
