Laura Trotter Reeves

Laura Trotter Reeves, 90, of French Camp, MS, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2026.  Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 3:00 p.m. at Beck Funeral Home, 4860 Hwy 12, Weir, MS 39772.  Beck Funeral Home of Weir, in charge of arrangements.

Laura was born July 24, 1935 to Earmia and Joe Cephais Trotter in Poplar Creek, Mississippi.  

Laura spent her childhood in Duck Hill, MS, where she developed the strong values of faith, hard work, and service that would guide her throughout her life.  She attended Rust College in Holly Springs, MS and received a degree in English.  Laura and her husband, Theofties relocated to California to build their life together.  She later earned a Master of Science in Education from Pepperdine University and obtained her Lifetime California Teaching Credential.  Education was more than her profession, it was her calling.  She dedicated her career to serving young people as both a teacher and school counselor in the Compton Unified School District and the Los Angeles Unified School District.  

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Earmia and Joe Cephais Trotter; son, William Reeves; siblings, David Trotter, Annette Molette, Joe Willie Trotter, Edward Trotter, John Trotter, and Mary Jeffrey.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Theofties Reeves; children, Laurinda Chris Armstrong, Gervase Reeves, Letitia Luckett (Essex) and Earmia "Mia" Lee (John); grandchildren, Deshelle Reeves, JaiNelle "Nikki" Cryer, Kimberly Briggs (Donnie), Earvin Smiley, Jerrica Walker, Marc Lee (Tyara), Victor Lee (Sonia), Dayna Garrett, Travis Armstrong, David Lee, and Peter-Cole Lee; numerous great grandchildren and a host of extended family members, friends, former students, and colleagues whose lives were forever touched by her love.
