Reflections of Life

Blessed be the Lord because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. The Lord is my strength and my shield, my heart trusted in him, and I am helped, therefore my heart geat(y rejoiced, and with my song I will praise him.

Maretta Hudson was born Monday, December 30, 1968, to the late Joe Sherman and Gloria Hudson. Maretta graduated from Philadelphia High School and furthered her education by attending various colleges and has an extensive platform of degrees; East Central Community College (Associate Degree in Applied Science), Mississippi State University (Bachelor of Social Work), Moore Career College (Cosmetology) and Culinary Art School.

Maretta joined Goodway Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and attended faithfully until her health began to fail. She played the piano, was a choir director and was on the kitchen committee. And just like her Grandmother Zether, Maretta was a mother figure to children throughout the community and supported them in education and sports. Maretta acquired her exquisite cooking skills from her grandmother, mother, and her father. She cooked most of the time without recipes and catered countless events, and always made favorite desserts on several birthdays. As her health began to fail, Maretta often said "As long as I can cook, I will be fine!"

If you truly knew Maretta, you absolutely knew that she was an AVID SPORTS FAN! She loved her All Mighty PHS Tornadoes, MSU Bulldogs and of course Dak Prescott & The Fabulous DALLAS COWBOYS! She faithfully attended high school and MSU events without missing a beat! If her teams were playing, Maretta was going to be in attendance!

Maretta was preceded in death by her father, Joe Sherman, grandmother, Zether Graham, her grandfather, James King, grandmother, Allean Sherman Brow, and her grandfather, Joe Butchee.

But Maretta's most precious "LOVE" dear to her heart was the love she had for her family, her friends, and the LORD! She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, her mother, Gloria Hudson, three sisters, Joanna Hill of Meridian, MS," Latrina Sherman, of Baltimore, MD, and Valerie Sherman, Meridian, MS, two Aunts, Sarah (Jerry) Williams of Philadelphia, MS, and Gracie (Slyvester, Sr.) Herlong of Lauderdale, MS, one Uncle, Benny Graham, Jr. of Philadelphia, MS, two special Aunts, Johnnie Max Fox and Patricia Cole both of Philadelphia, MS, her two (fur babies), Maxwell and Sasha, a host of cousins, friends, nephews, and self- adopted children who always made her smile.
